The Dell computers have very strong market varying of customers from home users to the official market to the corporate clientele. The each and every sector has a varied demand and need for their requirements. Dell is the first major computer manufacturer to ban the export of nonworking electronics to developing countries as part of our global electronics disposal policy building up a good brand image within the market. They offer the customers to choose to do business with more than 60,000 partners registered with Dell and certified to operate as our agents. Thus having a customer centric market focuses on the consumer needs. Dell computers believe in continuous innovation which is one of more key factors as their being constant changes in the technology and advancements in day to day life there is increase in needs of different customers which is satisfied the current operating procedures of the company Corporate strategies of Dell Computers Following up with Corporate Responsibility Considering the competition in the market along with the others computer companies the few corporate strategies of Dell Inspire innovation and innovate our team members to live company purposes : As usual dell computers have been promoting innovation since long time so as to promote the technical as well as support team and cope up with increasing needs of customers with advancements in technology Continue building up trust through the positive and meaningful differences the company is making on the communities and the planet : The commitment of Dell computers have been constantly creating a difference in technology and innovating the technology Recognize where they can make the most measurable impact and align the commitments : To recognize by the sensitive evaluation of the customers as being a customer centric strategic organization and measure the impacts would be occurring on the commitments to the specific market segment. Develop measures for reporting the progress and media to communicate that progress: The motive would be to evaluate the performance and make evaluations at timely basis and to communicate the results to compare with the expected goals to be achieved Competitive Priorities of Dell Computers: Focusing on best available solution instead of just focusing on technology Having a alternative focus the available solutions to the improvement of technology instead of also just having a focus on innovation Teaching and promoting innovative thinking Promoting in-house innovations instead of hiring and having a partnering with the technical consultants Getting feedback from customers and suppliers Getting feedbacks from the customers should be of mere importance as being a customer centric focus it will help in making continuous improvements and meeting the requirements Supply Chain management of IHG The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) outsources its management of supply chain and has signed a new five year contract with Supply Chain Management, (SCM, LLC) to manage the supply chain function at and of IHG. SCM, LLCs responsibilities will include North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. With supplying and looking over the work process of the inter brands as well as on supply chain of specific brand SCM.LLC manages the supply chain function for both IHGs corporate and owned/managed / franchised by hotel group, including the major process of sourcing, negotiating, contracting and interfacing with suppliers to maintain cost and quality control. In addition, SCM will manage the relationship with IHGs procurement service company. SCM also helps IHG with staff serving the account will be housed on-site at IHG offices in the major locations of the brand. Enhancing relations with the suppliers and standardizing products and services by following an efficient supply chain. SCM provides strategic solutions for expense management that enable clients to achieve maximum and sustainable savings through a variety of customized services. These services include cost management, spend analysis, process re-engineering, demand management, sourcing of products and services, negotiation, contract development and administration, and staff training. This outsourcing helps IHG to look onto the performa nce and evaluate it and thus follow up with the changes to be made. Constraint Management of INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL GROUP Following with the few constraints from the SCM (Supply Chain Management) review. IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has launched a new Price Optimization module globally that integrates local market demand forecasting, publicly available competitive data analysis and price and revenue management system and helps IHGs hotels determine the best daily price. While traditional revenue management systems select rates based on demand predictions, IHGs Price Optimization module has a price sensitive modeling process that allows the system to continuously balance rates, occupancy and guest pricing preferences in a way that increases revenue opportunities regardless of demand. It makes easier for the large group of hotels to make competitive pricing decisions IHG hotels with brands that include Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express which ranges from low budget hotels to hi class leisure and luxury brands which makes it important to be concerned with financing of the brands. Thus seeing positive results following the system generated price and balancing the revenues. The Price Optimization module is a proprietary system that was developed as there had been lot of leverage costs wasted up with the brands. Lean Systems followed by INTERCOTINENTAL HOTEL GROUP After the 9/11 attack there has been a considerable and resulting downturn in the hotel and hospitality business, IHG needed to cut costs significantly to stay competitive. There had been a cut down of around $100M from the Americas Region operating budget. Then IHG turned managed services consultants, to help reduce their spend on Helpdesk, Deskside and Server Support services by 33% (or $1.2M) and understand why end-user satisfaction was low and make improvements in the service with budget planning. The systems were transformed and a formulation of IT servers was lead on to cut down the costs looked at the IT challenges being faced by IHG, it seemed to migrate as many of the Desk side service calls as possible to the Helpdesk. It was to make process improvements without disrupting a live IT service and further degrading already low levels of services. Lean and Six Sigma were applied to the present procedures which allowed quantifying obvious areas for improvement and also uncovering substantial opportunities to make changes with. For example, discovering the cost savings that eliminate redundancy between service providers would bring a change in overall change in system thus saving costs and to achieve the $1.2M in savings. The following lean procedures were allowed: To reduce the average problem fixing times and to improve customer satisfaction Solve more problems at the Helpdesk instead of on-site Deskside Updated and standardized operating systems to reduce complications with the data availablity Moving of account administration off-site so it will be easy for managing and storing information Eliminate the vendor duplication for an effort to further reduce costs Supply Chain for DELL Computers The Dell Computer Corporation a leading direct computer systems company. Dell sells its computer systems directly to end customers, bypassing distributors and retailers (resellers). Dells supply chain consists of only three stages. The suppliers from whom they gain basic resources, the manufacturer (Dell) at which innovation is converted to technology, and end users. Dell has developed direct contact with customers which allows it to: Properly identify market segments, Analyze the requirements and profitability of each segment, and Develop more accurate demand forecasts. Dell matches supply and demand because its customers order computer configurations over the phone or online (Internet) where sometimes it makes use of JIT (Just In Time) process as each computer has to be configured according to needs. These computer configurations are built up from components that are available. Dells strategy is to provide customised, low cost, and quality computers that are delivered on time to make the customer feel cared for and valued for time and money. Dell successfully implemented this strategy through its efficient manufacturing operations, better supply chain management and direct sales model. Dell takes orders directly from its customers; either on phone or online. Thus, Dell reduces the cost of intermediaries and agents that would otherwise add up to the total cost of PC for the customer as well be problematic at times with misunderstanding and breaking down image of DELL. Dell also saves time on processing orders that other companies normally incur in t heir sales and distribution system. Moreover, by directly dealing with the customer Dell gets a clearer indication of market trends. This helps Dell to plan for future besides better managing its supply chain and also keeps a track with trends and surveys the customer needs in specific market. This also helps dell to get a targeted sector for the next innovative product. One more advantage for Dell is it gets by directy dealing with the customer is that it is able to get the customers requirements regarding software to be loaded. Dell loads the ordered software in its plant itself before dispatching it. By eliminating the need of a PC support engineer to load software, the customers gain both in time and cost. They can use the PCs the moment they arrive. Just by a click and no need of any separate installations are to be made with the same thus cutting down the costs of engineers for installation. Constraint Management of DELL Computers The Dell computers being innovative and efficient with the systems have to some internal constraints which can be managed while applying New single-system backup solution which combines world-class hardware and software to help customers store, protect and archive data and also Dell and Symantec collaborate to make reduplication technology accessible so customers can improve efficiency and optimize storage investments and dell could provw with the best. In accordance with innovating on working on customer needs there has to been management on constraints. To help small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) more effectively respond to the challenge of efficiently storing, managing and protecting increasing amounts of business-critical data, Dell is introducing the PowerVault DL2100 Powered by Symantec Backup Exec 2010, a disk-based backup and recovery solution with available reduplication technology in a single server. With this integrated end-to-end solution, customers can easily deploy and manage backup and recovery tasks, and reduce backup costs compared to tape-based solutions. Which will be a innovative solution for managing the data efficiently and in organised way rather then having large servers being operated continuously incurring costs and adding up to the maintenance costs Lean systems for Dell Computers Dell follows to run a lean operation. Dell factory we wont get to see raw materials, except those on the production line so as we use Just In Time procedure follow-ups. There are no products, as we build to order. So it is a pull system, rather than a push system where you build to forecasts and it so often goes wrong. Often there is no much push strategy used in dell computers manufacturing systems avoiding wastes and layoffs. The other characteristic of the Dell business model is the attention to detail, and the belief in continuous improvement and continuous innovation. Dells manufacturing techniques are a margin ahead of its competitors. To keep pressing ahead to keep Dell Computer at the forefront of production methods would be the strategy to be the pioneers of the computer world There have been number of touches and a computer needs you can cut the number of people you need to build it. But the number of touches also directly relates to the number of failures in the field as it generally possesses a risk of changes in technology and the current production lying back. There is a huge cost to DELL for operating technical support and dispatching a replacement part. If on a computer system they have to do a part replacement, they have to lose the profit on that PC if we have to do a dispatch. So getting it right on quality is fundamental to prove the customers being the best in the computer world. Dell has been pulling business model from such that there were the efficiencies of Dell. Now a days Dell has been likely having the idea of outsourcing manufacturing to that of installing an ERP system. Which can cut down the manufacturing costs as the faults on hardware to be replaced back with the manufacturer just instead of producing and facing losses on the failure or breakdown of any hardware Comparative variations in Operating systems of IHG and DELL Computers Comparing a Brand from a hospitality sector such as Intercontinental Hotel Group holding 7 major brands in hospitality and service sector having a pioneering strategy achieving varied variety for the customers with choices from business class to leisure and resorts to a customer concentric computer company of DELL Computers which being customer oriented IT sector INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL GROUP (IHG Plc) IHG group has been the pioneers in the hospitality industry with more then 4400 hotels owned and franchised with 7 major brands providing a variation in meeting the requirements of the customers with varied profile and targeting different sectors. They have a plan of expanding to more of 35 properties in the coming three years. The operations being very franchised and linked up together. The supply chain management of in between the interbrands has been contracted with supply chain management SCM consultants to keep it organised as the franchising has to look over the all brand management state. To get summary of the supply chain and to know the defects and implement changes to the operations. The IHG group now is been targeting customers of varied sectors based on the different profiles offered by the properties to suit the customer profile. The pioneering strategy of the IHG is to continue with getting in customer oriented sector while making a change with the services offered. It also offers a loyalty points for the frequent customers and the loyalty card members which would create an assured clientele for the IHG group. DELL Dell has been consumer concentric and also keeping its inventory at a bare minimum. DELL recognises that the it cannot concentrate on just cost alone as it has been following a strategies to directly being in contact with the consumers. It has to differentiate and it has taken the steps to do just that. As the software services it is set to take off in the coming future along with Symantec to develop backup softwares. DELL has laid the foundation to offer the Softwares it has to build on multiple platforms. DELL intends to make available on both DELL and non-DELL systems offering customers the kind of customised support as it has done with its computer systems of hardwares and being with the support from the Microsoft system softwares. The reason being that there are too many complexities involved in the synchronizing the softwares with the various sectors in the market and would be innovating to be as google as it initially came only with search engine now linked up with varied appl ications. But Dell seems determined and has invested a lot in this new service. This could achieve a market share that was lost to HP. Dell will also have to branch out on the various channels it can operate from. The direct consumer interaction has been working well but may not be enough to sustain a more globalized presence in the developing countries. So it needs to expand the channels globally and also has plans to open more manufacturing factors in India, Brazil, and BRIC countries. To enable better delivery of customer service, Dell will have to coordinate with the channels for continuous and considerate supply.

Critical Analysis of Taylor Swift’s Red Essay

Grammy award winning artist Taylor Swift debuted her first album at in 2006. Within six years Swift has grown to be one of the most renowned country pop artists ever known. With her fans craving for more from Swift, she released her fourth album titled â€Å"Red† on October 15, 2012. The album was an instant hit that sold over 1.2 million copies within the first week of being released. â€Å"Red† is one of the top selling albums in the past five years, coming only behind Mumford & Son’s recently released â€Å"Babel†. The album contains 16 tracks that are a strange mix of Swift’s country roots, modern pop, and hints of lite-rock. The highly anticipated, supposed â€Å"album of the year† turned out to be a major disappointment. At least Taylor has an easy excuse: her horrible decision to try out some new producers and song writers such as Max Martin and Shellback, who are known for creating hit radio pop songs for Maroon 5, Pink and Kelly Clarkson. These two were mainly responsible for the most disappointing tracks: â€Å"I Knew You Were Trouble† (a song that bashes ex-boyfriend John Mayer even further than she did in her album â€Å"Speak Now†), â€Å"22† (a song about enjoyment of young adulthood), and the hit single â€Å"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together†. On the other hand, Swift did have Nathan Chapman, her longtime producer, help her with almost half the album, which includes the most notable tracks on â€Å"Red† such as â€Å"All Too Well†, â€Å"The Lucky One†, and â€Å"Treacherous†. Another plausible reason for Swift’s subpar performance in the production of â€Å"Red† is her obvious self-confusion with her own identity. When Taylor released her first album she was barely 16 years old. Now, she is 22 but is still trying to write songs about the same old heartaches and heartbreaks that she had when she was a teenager. Since she was made famous and praised for the songs about first kisses, first break ups, and dumb boys, it makes sense that she would continue to write songs about the same topics and, naturally, a true transition from a hopeless romantic of a teenager to a real adult must be out of Swift’s comfort zone and a bit intimidating. But the fact is that now Swift is no longer a teenager and therefore should not be writing about teenager-like relationships. She never discloses any intimate details about her relationships in her songs unlike most 22 year-old artists. Instead, she successfully portrays the perfect role of an untouchable, chaste virgin disguised as a serial dater looking for the next guy to write a song about. The best track on the album, that was co-produced by Nathan Chapman, is â€Å"All Too Well† which is a slower, acoustic-based ballad written all by Swift herself. The song fits Taylor’s original style perfectly, encapsulating the platonic ideal of unfair heartbreak as she also does in many songs in her previous albums such as â€Å"Cold As You† in her self titled album, â€Å"Breathe† in her second album â€Å"Fearless†, and â€Å"Dear John† in her third album â€Å"Speak Now†. â€Å"All Too Well† is about her former boyfriend, actor Jake Gyllenhaal (which of who most of the album is about), and the story of their short, but apparently serious relationship spent specifically on a weekend at his sister Maggie’s house. The song is emotional and has a powerful climax that describes how he broke up with her over a phone call, which is typical for Taylor Swift and what her fans love and expect. Overall, the album lacks originality both lyrically and melodically. As Taylor takes steps further away from her love stricken lyrics and country roots and more towards passive aggressive pop rock tunes the worse off she gets and consequently leaves her fans disappointed. Although the album does contain a couple genuinely well written and produced tracks, the general confusion of which genre Swift tries to reflect in â€Å"Red† throws off the album as a whole. Hopefully Swift will soon learn how to use all of her potential to become a true adult artist that has evolved from her past glory as a teenage country legend.

Social impact7 6Conclusions8 7Recommendation8 8Reference9 Introduction In some developing country, arid are able to cause poverty and death, so it is important to provide clean, cheap and sustainable water to those residents living in arid area. However to supply water in arid regions can be a great challenge, it should concern about cost, sustainability, environmental impact and social impact. This report will focus on 3 methods of water prevision: Desalination, Rain Harvesting System and Dam. The report aims to analyses 3 different water prevision methods, and find out which is fit the situation in Middle East.In order to achieve this aim, report will compare those 3 methods in 4 requirements: Cost, Sustainability, Environmental Impact and Social Impact and carry out a recommendation to the region of Middle East. Background Recently the total population of human being has broken through Seven billion. The booming population has led to a serious problem, the higher the population is, and the more water will be demanded. However, the water resource is limited: though 70. 9% of the earth surface is covered by water, only 2. 5% of the earth’s water can be directly utilized by human beings (Cech 2010).Fresh water resource is valuable for every one on this planet, especially for those people who live in arid areas such as Middle East. In those region s, without water provision crops and livestock cannot survive, people have to spend a lot of time on searching and carrying water which can deprive their right to get education and make money (KIC 2011). At the same time, low water quality is a huge threat to people’s health. According to a survey from WHO (2004) if all humans in the world can have clean water supply, 88% of health problem in developing country will be solved.Options 1. 1 Desalination 97% of water on this planate is salt water, if we can take the salt out water, then many place in the world will no longer suffer from lack of water. Fortunately desalination make it possible. Fischetti (2007) points out that desalination is a process using energy and technique to remove salts and other minerals from water. The aim of this process is to transform salt water to fresh water for people drinking and daily use in the regions limited on fresh water but have plenty of salt water.Numbers of desalination station have bee n built in the world, The biggest desalination station in the world is the Jebel Ali Desalination Plant located in United Arab Emirates. It can produce 79. 2 billion Gallon fresh water per year (Elshorbagy 2008). These stations supply large amount of fresh water to local residents every day, ease the water stress largely. 1. 2 Rain Harvesting System In some arid areas, rainwater may be the main water source,Boers (1994) point out that, the low rainfall and irregular distribution cause the problem of water stress in some arid areas.Rain Harvesting System basically is to harvesting rain water from rooftop and yard, after purified, than storing the water in an underground cellar for drinking, daily use and watering crops, See: figure 1 (Garwalmail 2001). Boers (1994) also points out that this kind of technique has already been applied on many arid areas to solve water stress. Figure 1 Simple Diagram to show Rainwater Harvesting (Garwalmail 2001) 1. 3 Damming Human beings have used dam as a method of water provision for a long history. The oldest extant dam in the world is the Jawa Dam, located in Jordan (Helms, 1977).Dams can be seen as a barrier to stop water flow for and reserving it. Storing rain or river water in rain season, ensure the water supply for human consumption and irrigation in dry season. Dams make water predictable, and much easier to manage. Damming is not only a water provision method but also an energy sources. Large scale dams can also produce power. Altinbilek(2002) found 19% of electricity in the world wild was generated by dams, helping a lot of countries to get clean and cheap energy. Requirements 1. 4 CostFor wealth regions, cost is not the primary requirement of water provision methods, they pay more attention on sustainability or environmental impacts. however most of arid areas are not especially wealth, cost could be a big problem for them. In some low income Middle East countries, governments are unable to afford those kinds of water p rovision project which cost a lot (World Bank 1993). Poor water supply leads to high death rate and low productivity. People have to pay more time on searching and carrying water, this makes them even poorer. So costs is an important consideration for some ountries. 1. 5 Sustainability Sustainability is also an aspect must be concerned when plan a water supply project. If a region seeks to maintain productivity and daily life, then the continuous water supply is essential. Unstable water supply will lead to low productivity and quality of life. Those old water provision methods such as pumping underground water are not a long-term solution, new technology may provide some solution to this problem. Tove (1997) brought out an idea: new technologies are able to make water supply far more stable and reliable than ever before. . 6 Environmental impact In recent years the environmental impact of water provision methods has aroused many people’s concern. In the past, environment woul d not be a primary consideration for water provision projects. However more and more evidence shows that insufficient attention to environment can bring a lot of problem. Hwang (2004) point out that, excessive use of groundwater is directly related to ground subsidence. Fortunately, today when planning a water project they will try to minimize the environmental impact (Figure 2).A fish ladder has been tested and has applied on many dams to protect native fish (Barrett 2006). Figure 2: A fish ladder built around a dam in the Pacific Northwest 1. 7 Social impact Just like the Environmental impact, water provision project can also have a significant impact on society. For a large-scale project, millions of people have to abandon their house, farmland and all the things they cannot take with them, evacuated to other places, IRO (2008) point out that it is estimated that there are more than 40 million people in the world have to move because of large-scale water project. The government ha s to pay huge amounts of money to resettle those people. Spending too much money on a water provision project may also lead to a higher bill of water which is detrimental for the poor (Goldman 2007). Comparison by Requirements Compared Options 1. 8 Cost On average, to build desalination plant is likely to be the most expansive way to provide fresh water. Karagiannis. (2007) argued about that the cost of building a desalination plant can be astonishing, and it require a lot of energy.Compare with desalination, the cost to build and maintain on dam can be acceptable if the construction scale is not that big. In addition, most of dams are applied on electricity generation and keep fish in reservoir. These methods will bring revenue to reduce the cost of dam. It is no doubt that Rainwater Harvesting System is the most economical way of water supply. Boers (1994) states that, building a rainwater harvesting system for a family is quite cheap. 1. 9 Sustainability In these three methods, t he most stabled way to supply water is desalination.Kumar (2003) argues that if we are able to transfer sea water to freshwater, then water would not be a problem for human beings; we do not have to worry about overuse sea water, as we worrying about groundwater and rivers will dry up one day. Damming is also a relatively stable water supply method. Excluding some extreme weather factors, damming can provide water to surrounding areas stably (Altinbilek 2002). However, if encounter extreme weather, like drought, dams will lost the function of providing water. The most unsustainable water provision method is rainwater harvesting.Boers (1994) states that rely on rainfall to supply fresh water in arid areas have never been a stable way. 1. 10 Environmental Impact Damming has a huge impact on the environment. Old style dams do not have a fish passage, which stops fish swims back to upstream for breeding. World Commission on Dams (2000) point out there is more than 9000 kinds of fresh wa ter fish vanished in recent 100 years in the world. For a desalination plant, the impact to environment is far lower than damming. Great energy consumption may be the only impact a desalination plant do to environment.Younos (2005) describe desalination plant energy consumption as â€Å"drinking energy†. Rainwater harvesting nearly have no impact on environment, so it is an environment-friendly way to provide fresh water. 1. 11 Social impact Desalination and rainwater harvesting almost have no negative impact to social impact. In fact these two methods are beneficiating to society. According to Elshorbagy (2007) and Boers (1994) these two kinds of methods are Ease water shortages in wealth regions and poor regions respectively in Middle East. There is no doubt that damming can have a huge impact on social. The impact of damming bring to the society is multifaceted. Local resident resettlement, loss of arable land and those cultural heritages losses, all of these social problem s are caused by damming (Goldsmith 1992). Conclusions With all the discussion above there, we can easily to find out that each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Desalination plant is a very stable water supply method. However, construction and operating costs is unacceptable for some developing country in Middle East. Damming is a reliable way to provide fresh water, but the impact on environment and society is unaffordable for some Middle East country.Although rainwater harvesting is not that stable, but because of its low cost and Environment-friendly, this method can play a major role in poor regions. So it is impossible to find out one method better than others. According to local conditions, we should choose different way to provide fresh water in Middle East. Recommendation In the Middle East, desalination may be the best way to provide water for wealth countries. However, for those poverty-stricken countries where under extreme weather, rainwater harvesting can be a good way to solve water stress. * ReferenceAltinbilek, D (2002). Gender Inequalities in Victorian England Robert...

It was a tale of two lovers uniting in the night to express their affection and devotion. So how exactly did this tale of love, end in cruel, cold-blooded murder? Good evening and welcome to Poetry Break Down, I’m your host Mary Doe. Tonight, we will delve into the fascinating world of classic Victorian literature. Under the microscope is canonized poet, the late Robert Browning. Browning’s poetry was a reflection of his life and times living in Victorian England. Later on this evening we will analyze just how his times came to play a major role in some of his greatest works, in particular his revered poem Porphyria’s Lover. Released in 1836 (Catherine Maxwell, 1993, p.27), this esteemed text follows the murder of beloved Porphyria, the†¦show more content†¦The emasculation and submissive role the narrator has been faced with ultimately leads to the climax of the poem. In an attempt to preserve Porphyria’s love and exercise power, Porphyriaâ€℠¢s lover strangles her with a lock of her own yellow hair (Line 39-40). The obsessive speaker then proceeds to prop Porphyria’s ‘drooping’ neck against his shoulder (Line 39-41), a complete reversal of his previous compliance to her controlling actions. This is symbolic of recovering masculinity from prior submission and depicts the male agenda of the Victorian period. Gender inequalities formed the fabric of society during the Victorian Era, as reflected in Porphyria’s Lover. From 1837 to 1901, Victorian England was a civilization of male dominance and supremacy. Men were viewed as superior beings that were far more intellectually, physically and emotionally able than females. Women were bound by law to obey their husbands while being forced to adhere to societal expectations. The female role in Victorian England consisted of caring for children and maintaining the home, occupying spare time with monotonous hobbies such as sewing. Husbands were by law permissible to punish their wives if they were not compliant with their expected role or acted disobediently. Originally, Porphyria challenges the dominant discourse of Victorian England as she boldly speaks and acts with independence, a trait that

Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of Apple †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of Apple. Answer: Introduction: Organisational ethics can be defined as a way in which organisations responds to external and internal environment. Various guidelines and principles are included in organisations workplaces that are decided by individuals or managers of the firm. Ethics can also be interpreted as a code of conduct followed by people working in an organisation. Making profits is the chief reason behind forming any company and to make money by unfair means is not permissible. For firms, individuals should be the first priority and no employee should be manipulated to get good results. Data modification is also taken as unethical conduct and is considered as theft in corporate world(MSG, 2017). In long run of organisations ethical dilemmas might take place in which perplexing situations among people takes place. The dilemmas mostly take place due to divergence in individual thoughts and fundamental nature. The confusing situations arising in workplaces are sometimes hard to justify and making necessary steps against it becomes difficult. In workplaces, dilemmas are happened quite often due to conflicts in ideology of employees and managers. The reason behind such dilemmas can be several like cultural differences, data infringements, child labour, incompetent payroll, incapable management, biased decisions, etc(Hewege, 2012). While unethical performance is made, it becomes duty of the management to look into the matter and undertake necessary steps against it. In this essay similar dilemma faced by one of the most renowned companys manufacturing unit of Apple Company at Foxconn will be discussed(Dawn, 2016). In order to make detail examination of the situation, two theoretical concepts will be discussed along with making an evaluation of those theories and how they could influence managerial practice in Apple Company. To assist the managers, critical reflection will be made in conclusion so that leaders can make decisions ethically. One of the most popular MNC is Apple whose headquarters is situated in America. It is also worlds second leading IT Company after Samsung([Case Study]-Apple vs. Samsung: A Battle of Marketing Relevancy, 2017). The company specialises in developing and designing computer software and computers. Popular mobile phones such as iPods, iPhone, ipad, etc. are all manufactured under the brand of Apple. Presently the CEO of the company is Tim Cook who was appointed in the year 2012 by Steve Jobs(Rawlinson, 2017). The article recently reported that the CEO had made immense profits for the company with his expertise and firm dedication. The CEO is said to be creative and innovative and had added cash reserves of over 90 billion dollars in the company. Soon after the new CEO was appointed, an ethical dilemma happened in Chinese manufacturing sector of the company in which employees protested against working conditions. Few even committed suicides and others threatened for the same. Foxconn is on e of the leading manufacturers of Apple who supplies finished Apple products for the company. The recent dilemma faced in factory premises where employees threatening attitude for suicide had made colossal situation for Tim Cook(Elmansy, 2017). The workers at Foxconn faced unethical working conditions in the working areas of one of the biggest electronics manufacturing unit. Around 150 workers threatened to jump from the roof of the building if their inconsiderate working conditions were not improved. One of the Chinese Community partys officials and managers were able to convince the workers to abort suicide and get down the roof for settlements. After two days of endeavour, the workers came down(Pierce, 2017). Apple is a global company and work pressure there seems to be high. The company was unable to give stress on Foxconn issue and the CEO focussed more on introducing its products and making profits(Vincente, 2015). To fulfil the demands of customers had been the prime target of Tim Cook and thus working hours were doubled for Foxconn factory in China. The company here lacked corporate social responsibility and tried to make profits against responsibility towards individuals. To show CSR only in companys brochures is n ot enough and is considered vital for smooth running of business(Apple India Private Limited, 2016). Nowadays people are getting concerned regarding socio economical factors and hence avoiding conflicts has become important so that financial merits are not hampered. The situation at Foxconn is one of the examples which shows negligible CSR of companies and nevertheless managers pretends to assure their responsibility, many of them lacks social ethics. Tim Cook focussed more on its supply network to achieve the companys goal but lacked to look over its manufacturing sectors. The investigations made by several newspapers were successful in highlighting the workers problem of Apple Company. The circumstances at Foxconn were not because of one reason or developed overnight but the problem had started since the year 2010. On that particular year more than eighteen employees committed suicide out of which fourteen died on spot(Brightkite, 2017). The main reasons behind such conditions, as told by employees working there, was low wages, inhuman treatment, long working hours and bias managers. The managers here are expected to take initiatives and embrace ethics. The companys shares increased and reputation of Apple reached high ends in around 2015 and companys financial results were seen above expectations. The investigators focussed more on companys merits rather than looking into other issues as a result the companys profits were benefitted from cost of employees life and those working at Foxconn(The Telegraph, 2017). The success of Apple in terms of finance and product quality cannot be overlooked but the ethical deficiency carried by the company is also important to be looked at. The way managers of the company handled its ethics and employees welfare had been covered by social Medias recently that are influencing the perceptions about Apple Company which is also affecting the companys economic success. However, New York Times magazine has identified that the Apple Company is working on taking initiatives towards preventive measures and reducing the working stress. The company made a report for its suppliers representing a portion of com panys supply chain. The company registered itself under Fair Labour association and became first IT Company for making such decision(Apple Inc., 2017). The company also made environmental groups and implemented labour rights while permitting its staff to work under fair conditions only. The incident that occurred in Foxconn factory gave company an opportunity to take preventive measures regarding social matters rather than financial issues. The CEO handled the situation very commendably and was able to deal with the issue professionally. Mr. Cook followed every protocol recommended to him and made advancement while dealing ethical dilemma at workplace(Dormehl, 2017). He evaluated the appropriate theories that could be applied to identify the root cause while making suitable decision. The CEO took steps in order to improve the working condition at Foxconn, as reported by the company. A non profit making organisation situated in America, The Fair Labour Association also claims that Ap ple Inc. had fulfilled all necessary working requirements in its factory premises of iPhones and iPods at Shenzhen and Chengdu(Background Of Case Study Apple Inc, 2015). The employees however do not seem to be contended and claims that proper solution has not been made to improve their work culture. They claim that organisation is bothered only about making profits and targeting their goal without giving reason for motivation among employees so that they could work with full aptitude. The company had enabled their work premises with additional recreation tools like tennis courts, television, swimming pools, interest clubs, etc. but the workers find them useless as they are unable to utilise them due to their excessive work load. The factories lacked necessary preventive tools as incidents were reported by employees that occurred in factories. In one of the factory fire broke out and other time poisonous gasses were spread inside the factory that choked many people(Lei Guo, 2012). Medical facilities also seemed inefficient at the time of disasters which brought rage in feelings of workers as they became sick due to inappropriate working conditions(Mer chant, 2017). Apple Inc is one of the biggest MNCs in the world and to maintain responsibility towards its stakeholders and entire business market is very significant for the company. With exclusive supply chain network and availability of products globally has made the company gain reputation and loyalty among customers. Thus it becomes necessary to maintain ethics and CSR while delivering enhanced consumer service along with giving fair returns to its shareholders. In order to examine the topic further two theoretical concepts will be utilised in this research paper. In businesses ethical theories have always provided an enormous foundation while making judgements regarding ethical contents in work action. The basic fundamental theories that could provide assistance in case of Apple Inc are Deontological and Teleological theory. The two theories will help in considering the situation and derive different conclusions respectively. The significance and possible outcome of actions can be focussed while applying teleological theory. This theory is widely used in business context and public relation policies. Utilitarianism comes under teleological theory which states that actions made by employers seems good if maximum number of people feel contended or satisfied(Business Jargons). Thus it can be said that if a decision is fair; the end will automatically become fruitful. Eudaimonism in teleological theory states that action made by companies seems good if the goals are fulfilled along with maintaining public welfare. The promotion of trends and prof iteering is enabled after fulfilling individual contentment is considered as an example of sound ethical base. Deontology theory in ethics focuses on aptness or incorrectness in actions as opposed by others during the course of action towards the work performance or any individual(Mastin, 2008). Thus major work of deontologist is to make out whether the situation is fair or worse depending on the action and that the claim is correct or not. The moral obligations will always give priority to good actions and confirm moral ethics in its undertaking. In other words deontology deals with those ethical actions that proves good in the terms of society and is made without justifying their consequences regarding ultimate goals. The outcome of this theory always gives well results when talking about individual morale. The action taken is normally in favour of workers before considering corporate factors. Divine Command theory in deontological theory states that any moral action made by people is important as it is obligatory to perform actions ethically. It is duty of individuals to perform their part of responsibility with integrity in providing better moral action for society. Natural Rights theory states that the ethical theory gives rights to individual to work under fair condition and if it is exploited, people may demand for changes. This theory gives rights to the people to develop their transit and tradition after incorporating ethical laws(Mastin, 2008). In case of Apple, the contribution made by the company in technological and supply chain has impacted the entire world significantly. However, ethical part in the company is found missing. The CEO of the company made profound decisions that made the company in top position in market but only if he could make extra effort in managing workplaces could have helped the company come out of the dilemma. The company lacked ethics and morals and thus faced issues regarding it(Lei Guo, 2012). The case of Apple Inc can be classified into deontological approach. Initially the company used to think about excessive working hours along with child labour and other issues relating health and safety. The increasing approach by social Medias exposure regarding ethical behaviour had made company look more into its publicity impacts that may prove negative on share prices and revenues. With increasing pressure on workers and supply chain the company witnessed rise in audits and share prices and became c lose in accomplishing its objective. According to authors, any act towards fulfilling goal should be ethical and conditional or else it is considered as unlawful act(MSG, 2017). The suppliers of Apple always suffered ethically from Apple Company and since Asian regions had low bargaining power, they had to bear ethical force. Since Asian regions production costs are cheaper, the company tried to make utmost supply out of it and under no condition was ready to reduce its business(Firstpost, 2017). The act which the company followed is not accepted universally and the case of Apple shows that the company discriminated between their own employees and outside suppliers. The company was also reported to involve chid labour in its manufacturing unit which is again unacceptable case principally. Therefore it can be said that although the company was successful in implementing utilitarianism but deontological approach seemed unsatisfactory. The CEO and the management of the company should take more care of their labours as the company is highly depended on them. The satisfaction and basic demands of employees shall be taken care of by the company including health facilities and enhanced working conditions. If these are not met, the company might have to face future troubles(Hewege, 2012). Here the company can apply consequentiality approach that may help the company to control the situation. The CEO needs to understand that increasing employees satisfaction always increase their work capability and maximise returns gradually. The decrement in job satisfactions loses the enthusiasm among employees and tendency to work is reduced along with reduction in product quality. The working condition of Foxconn as reported had unpleasant working conditions and thus created ethical dilemma which regulated the reputation of the company. If such working conditions are not enhanced, any positive decision may not seem accomplishing and also will not bring positive changes among employees. More worse the situation becomes will bring in more media attention and hence only inconvenience will be created in growth path(Dormehl, 2017). Nowadays people are getting more concerned about social welfare and CSR of organisations. If the consumers comprehend that the manufactures works for the company at the price of their living, it might become unbearable for them. As a result Apple might lose its important clients and customers which will automatically hamper companys approach towards forming a sustainable position in market. The management system of the company thus requires undergoing constructive change in order to avoid future issues(Sin, 2016). The management system at Foxconn has weak leadership control as it is seen that the leaders were unable to handle the situation at the beginning which increased to such an extent that made suicides in the premises of company. Foxconn requires leader who is more bureaucratic in control and possess a quality that could balance companys requirement and labour demands(Bilton, 2014). Trust between managers and employees are the base of any company along with sharing responsibility. The ethical concepts demands the company to treat people as individuals and not like machines and thus the administrators are demanded to be superior in conducting moral ethics. If such ethical strategy is adopted in Foxconn, quick flow in decisions can be seen and closeness between authority and workers might solve the current issues. Training programmes can be introduced at Foxconn that might help workers in understanding latest techniques as well as different ways through which they could complete their job faster. Presently the dictators of Foxconn treat employees as slaves and despite getting such behaviour, no employee had ever tried to lawsuit against the company. Under the Labour Law of China, all the possessions and ID cards are kept by the company which are not returned back to their families even if they demand for it(Bilton, 2014). This again proves unacceptable law and justifies ethical dilemma faced by Apple Company. If any workplace is constructed without ethical presence, it becomes duty of leaders to rectify it and failing such, the organisation might have to face bad publicity in front of public and corporate world. Ethics refers to those moral principles that motivates people and creates moral development which can be seen in the operations of businesses. The best leaders are the ones who ensure bondage between employees and employer(Mastin, 2008). Conclusion After analysing the situation of Apple Inc in the above essay, from multi perspective view, it can be said that the Foxconn specialises in making utmost profits and generating sufficient amount of production. But the ethical issues as commented by its employees show that the company lacked moral principles and treated its workers as slaves(Brightkite, 2017). Foxconn has been able to implement bureaucratic and scientific management theory which made its workers work like machines and not like humans. This intolerant nature of the management had made many of its employees fall sick and even aroused suicidal instinct in them. The new CEO of the company had been under great pressure as the long running ethical dilemma needs to be corrected immediately or else the entire organisation might have to suffer immensely. MNC as huge as Apple loses its ethical conduct is something shocking for the nation as such companies is taken as examples of successful entrepreneurs. Thus it becomes very ess ential for the CEO to rectify the issues and make decisions that provides development for improved tomorrow(Elmansy, 2017). Leaders are entitled to make decisions after focussing on employees satisfactions and core development keeping aside personnel sentiments and profiteering nature. The above essay had given a detailed view on the organisations managerial incapability and about workers dilemma in a company. The two theoretical concepts discussed from management ethics had examined the dilemma crucially while making close evaluations of situation. The recommendations made in the essay might prove beneficial for the managers of the Apple Company and ensure that further decisions made by them are more based on ethical grounds.
